Home's Cool!

Every year, I seem to attract some sort of flack from someone about our choice to homeschool Lauren (and someday our other children). I most often hear that dreaded "But, your kids need socialization!" comment. Really, what I've found is that as a homeschooler, we're MORE social than any public/private school kid could possibly be. In fact, last year, we had to cut out some activities so we could actually DO school! I had Lauren tested last year and accademically, she's right on target or WAAAAAAAAYYYYY ahead. So, we're doing great. Yes, I'm tooting my own horn here. (and hers!)

Anyway, this year, we completely changed our curriculum. I was pretty nervous about it at first, but it has become so obvious that this is exactly where God wants us. It's so exciting! We belong to a co-op that is just starting this year as well. There are 6 great families involved and we had our first meeting this last week.

Below, are a couple of pictures of the girls making salt dough maps as part of geography. They had great fun with them. Next week, they paint them.

Today, I'm keeping a couple of kids from our co-op, while their mom (she's a nurse) and dad take some classes for their jobs. Naters was THRILLED to wake up this morning to "DOH!!!!!" (also known as Joe) Here they are sitting at the table doing math. Lauren isn't in the pic, but this is how we began our day.
Another pic of Naters and his buddy.
I'll probably be posting more pics from co-op as time goes on. We'll be having an end of the unit party and I KNOW I'll have lots to share about that then.

Amen to the opening statement...homeschooled kids don't usually have a problem with socialization. They can socialize with people in EVERY age group...not just their peers!! I'm so encouraged by the fact that you homeschool, Brittany. Keep up the good work, keep the co-op pix a-coming!! That's awesome!!
I meant to email you earlier in the week, when you commented on my blog, but you know how a homeschool day goes.
Love ya, Laurie :) ;)
